At Mud Hollow Farm we facilitate experiences where students connect with equines to discover personal strategies to improve overall social and emotional skills as well as academic performance in school. All interactions are ground based. There is no riding involved. Students may attend individually or in groups of up to 4 learners. Sessions will run one hour each. They are typically structured in 4 session blocks, one session per week. Topics are determined by a student's individual needs and interests. Closed toe shoes are required.

COVID-19 Updates: Individual lessons are recommended. Currently only participants who reside together may schedule group sessions. Masks are required. Activities are performed outside or in open barn aisles.

As prey animals, equines are constantly attuned to the environment. They interpret behaviors of humans quickly, honestly and without judgement. This ability to connect with humans enhances the development of Social and Emotional Learning such as:
-
Self awareness
-
Self management
-
Social awareness
-
Relationship Skills
-
Responsible Decision Making
Building upon these life skills in a fun and nonjudgmental environment, we will offer interventions in reading and math.
Horse Powered Reading developed by Dr. Michele Pickel, helps students see and experience reading with their entire mind, body and emotions by creating metaphors for the skills involved. Reading problems are made visible by labeling obstacles that get in the way of understanding. The focus will be on:
-
Decoding
-
Phonemic awareness
-
Vocabulary
-
Fluency
-
Comprehension
Understanding Math through routine equine tasks, is
the perfect way to strengthen the basics of:
-
Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division
-
Weights and measurements
-
Fractions and angles
